Dual RocketAIC cards from HighPoint provide 122TB of SSD storage at 54 GB/s

Published

HighPoint unveils its newest RocketAIC cards, which offer an amazing storage density of up to 122TB and are enterprise-class PCIe 4.0 Add-In Cards (AICs) built for dependability and endurance. The Solidigm D7-P5520 E1.S NVMe SSDs, a 114-layer TLC drive, are used in the RocketAIC’s design, setting it apart from existing PCIe 4.0 AIC solutions. The RocketAIC can support up to eight E.1S SSDs and has eight E1.S NVMe connectors. The AIC has a typical 6-pin PCIe power connector for external power to power these drives. Through an unnamed Broadcom PCIe 4.0 switch, each E.1S SSD is guaranteed its own PCIe 4.0 x4 interface.

The RocketAIC’s design places a strong emphasis on effective cooling to combat the heat issues that can arise in AIC configurations. For the E.1S SSDs, integrated heatsinks and cooling fans guarantee top performance and dependability. The RocketAIC is capable of 30.72TB and 61.44TB of storage. Users can get a staggering 122.88TB of capacity by combining two AICs in a dual-drive configuration. The 61.44TB model’s performance can write and read data at rates of up to 18 and 27 gigabytes per second, respectively. However, these rates dramatically improve to 54 GB/s reads and 36 GB/s writes with a dual-drive setup.

The RocketAIC allows for RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10 arrays, giving users the option of enhanced security, optimal performance, or both. It’s crucial to remember that the RocketAIC only supports data RAID; boot RAID is not supported. The AIC has typical full-height, full-length, dual-width form factor proportions of 19.05 x 111 x 21.59 mm, or 7.68 x 4.37 x 0.85 inches. It works with the Linux, Windows, and macOS operating systems.

Users must pay attention to the component number, though, as the “EM” suffix denotes compatibility with macOS while the “EW” suffix denotes support for Windows and Linux. The endurance limits for the RocketAIC vary depending on the SKU, and it has a three-year warranty. The 30.72TB and 61.44TB drives, when used in a single-drive configuration, give 7 PBW and 14 PBW, respectively. The endurance limits rise to 56 PBW and 112 PBW, respectively, in the dual-drive 61.44TB and 122.88TB systems.
