How to Connect AirPods to a PS4 or PS5
You may be able to use your AirPods while playing games on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 if you are willing to put in a small amount of effort and accept one restriction.
In order to connect your headphones to your console, you’ll need to purchase a Bluetooth adapter. While you’ll be able to hear everything that’s going on in the game, you won’t be able to converse with other players while doing so. What you should be aware of is as follows:

What You Need to Connect AirPods to PS4 or PS5
In order to utilize your AirPods with the PS4 and PS5, you’ll need to acquire an adaptor, since they don’t come equipped with built-in Bluetooth capabilities by default.
In order to accomplish this, you’ll need a Bluetooth adapter, which you can attach to your console either through the USB port or the headset connector.
How to Connect AirPods to PS4 or PS5
1. Connect your Bluetooth adapter to your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. Pairing mode should be selected.
2. Open your AirPods case (while keeping the AirPods inside), then press and hold the sync button for a few seconds. Hold on until the Bluetooth adapter says that the connection has been established successfully.
3. On your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, go to the Settings menu, then Devices, and then Audio Devices to find the Audio Devices option.
4. Adjust the Output Device to match your existing configuration. Click OK (like Headphones Connected to Controller). In the Output menu, select All Audio instead of Headphones as the output type.
Can you use AirPods to chat with other players?
The short answer is no, it does not work like that. The Bluetooth adaptor will only transfer audio from your console to your headphones, not vice versa, despite the fact that AirPods feature a built-in microphone.
The headphones you use must be particularly intended for use with the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 consoles. You will be unable to speak with other players if this is not the case.
Can You Chat with Other Gamers on PS5 Using AirPods?
It is not possible to use AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones with the PS5 because of two significant constraints.
In the first place, Bluetooth headphones often have some latency (also known as delay) between what you see on the screen and what you hear via your headphones. This is related to the manner in which Bluetooth transmits audio to the headphones. If you expect really high levels of performance from your game, the audio delay caused by AirPods may be an issue.
Second, despite the fact that AirPods contain a microphone (you can use them to answer phone calls, after all), you cannot use them to communicate with other players via voice chat. You’ll need headphones designed specifically for the PS5 or a Bluetooth adapter with a microphone that can be plugged into the PlayStation controller to do this.
The Apple AirPods Max headphones are a high-end option if you want to go all out with your audio setup. You may connect the AirPods Max to the PS5 controller using a headphone connection that they provide. Just be sure to modify the audio output and microphone input settings to the appropriate values.
