One of our favorite 1TB NVMe SSDs is back on sale
Another day, another offer on a super-fast solid-state drive (SSD). Amazon currently has a returning deal on a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD for $159 (opens in new tab), which is a reasonable price for an upgrade to your gaming rig when you consider the impact it will have if you’re still using an old hard drive or are constantly deleting things to make room on your current SSD.
However, this isn’t the cheapest vehicle we’ve seen on this journey. It was on sale for $10 less a couple of months ago, but it was snapped up very fast after that. If you didn’t make it this time, you’ll have a greater chance next time. With GPUs appearing to be returning to the market, now may be a good time to consider putting together that high-end PC setup (opens in new tab).
In our evaluation of the 980 Pro SSD last year, we were impressed with the speed of the 500GB variant, although we believed it was overpriced. Despite the fact that it is more than two years old, it is still a speedy drive that can compete with some of the latest NVMe SSDs on the market.
With the $70 price, the 980 Pro becomes a very decent and affordable PCIe 4.0 SSD that is also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 motherboards and other devices. Similar to the last deal, Amazon is offering 500GB(opens in new tab) and 2TB(opens in new tab) versions of the same SSD for $110 and $290, respectively, albeit they are not as inexpensive as they were back in February.
