Samsung’s QD-OLED panel is used in MSI’s new flagship gaming display

Published

Since its introduction in the early years of 2022, Samsung Display’s QD-OLED display technology has found its way into a number of different gaming monitors and television sets. Now, MSI has revealed its most advanced gaming monitor, the MSI MEG 342C. It comes equipped with a QD-OLED panel measuring 34 inches and was manufactured by Samsung Display. The MSI MEG 342C is the latest high-end gaming monitor released by the company. It features a 34-inch QD-OLED panel (made by Samsung Display), UWQHD resolution (3,440 x 1,440 pixels), a 21:9 aspect ratio, 1800R curvature, a 175Hz refresh rate, a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 rating, HDR support, and 1,000 nits peak brightness. Additionally, the monitor is HDR compatible.

The ultrawide gaming monitor comes with a microphone, an ambient light sensor, and an RGB light bar incorporated right into the front bezel of the display. Because it uses QD-OLED technology, the monitor is capable of displaying perfect blacks, 100% of the color volume, a response time of 0.03 milliseconds (grey-to-grey), and less blue light emission, which makes it safer for the eyes. In addition to having an anti-glare coating, it has support for AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro for gaming that is both smooth and free of tearing. Additionally, MSI asserts that its monitors have a color accuracy of E2 and a broad color range.

MSI OLED Care software provides numerous capabilities to slow down the aging process of OLED screens, which might be beneficial to users who are concerned about screen burn-in in OLED panels. The connected devices can take advantage of the 65W USB PD charging output from the monitor’s USB Type-C connection. It comes with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub that has two downstream ports that are USB Type-A. Additionally, it comes equipped with a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combination port, a DisplayPort 1.4a port, and two HDMI 2.1 ports. In the second half of this year, it will be available for purchase.
