This month, LG Display will provide Samsung with WRGB OLED television panels

Published

A couple of weeks ago, it was rumoured that Samsung had finally reached an agreement with LG Display. Samsung plans to purchase WRGB OLED TV panels from LG Display for its upcoming OLED televisions. Now, it is being rumoured that LG Display will begin selling a modest amount of WRGB OLED panels to Samsung this month. These panels are expected to be used in Samsung’s upcoming smartphones. It has been claimed that Samsung Visual Display, the company’s division that deals with televisions, has placed a modest order for WRGB OLED TV panels. Later on in this year, Samsung plans to release televisions that are based on these panels.

Therefore, the South Korean company’s TV portfolio 2023 will consist of a healthy combination of WRGB OLED and QD-OLED models. However, the companies have not yet signed the formal deal, and the decision will be made based on how much it will cost to create and market the product. The pent-up demand that was seen following the COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in a fall in the market for televisions over the course of the past year. There are rumblings that LG Display may provide Samsung with WRGB OLED panels of 77 and 83 inches in diagonal size. It is anticipated that this year’s overall panel supply would range between 200,000 and 300,000 individual units.

The next year, it is possible that LG will provide Samsung Visual Display with anywhere from one million to one and a half million OLED TV panels. In the first few months of 2018, Samsung introduced its first OLED television, the S95B model. The company followed up with two new models earlier this year, and both of them employ QD-OLED panels that Samsung Display manufactured. The models in question are the S90C and the S95C. However, Samsung Display has not yet manufactured a QD-OLED panel with a screen size of 83 inches or larger, and the company cannot produce as many QD-OLED panels as Samsung Visual Display requires.

Therefore, Samsung Visual Display had no choice but to turn to LG Display to get additional OLED panels in a greater variety of sizes and numbers. There is a possibility that Samsung’s 77-inch OLED TVs may utilize a combination of LG Display’s WRGB OLED panels and Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels. On the other hand, Samsung’s 55-inch and 65-inch OLED TVs may only use Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels. Only LG Display’s WRGB OLED panels will be used to construct the 83-inch television set.
