In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are three different ways to communicate with animals.

By Using ‘Speak With Animals’ Spell:

The ‘Speak With Animals’ spell is a level 1 ritual spell earned by the following classes during level up. This spell, once cast, will remain in effect until the next long rest.

• Druid
• Barbarian (Wildheart Subclass)
• Bard (College of Lore & College of Valour Subclasses)
• Paladin (Oath of the Ancients Subclass)
• Ranger
• Warlock

This spell is at level 1, thus it’s available to you when you make your main character. Even if you don’t, you’ll be able to learn the spell at each subsequent level. ‘Speak With Animals’ is an Eldritch Invocation available to Warlocks who spend a spell slot on Beast Speech.

One of the playable races in Baldur’s Gate 3: Forest Gnomes has the racial ability to Speak With Animals. You can cast Speak With Animals as soon as you acquire the necessary ingredients (and are no longer in danger). Until the animals awake from their long sleep, your character will be able to communicate with them.

The effect can be used in countless contexts, but here are some ideas:

• A chat with the mother and youngster Owlbear.
• Having a conversation with any of the Druid Grove’s creatures.
