How to Make Obsidian in Minecraft

Published

Obsidian is a type of block that can be found naturally occurring in the world of Minecraft, or it can be purposefully crafted by the player. Both methods are valid. Because of its strong resilience to the effects of explosions and its use as a component in a wide variety of crucial recipes, obsidian is often regarded as one of the most important building blocks in the Minecraft universe. The nether portal and the enchanting table are both included in these recipes.

How to Get Obsidian in Survival Mode

In the Survival mode of Minecraft, you can increase the quantity of obsidian you have in your inventory by pouring a bucket of water on lava and then mining the obsidian that is generated as a result of this procedure. This can be accomplished by following these steps: So let’s get started!

1. Find Lava

In order for you to proceed farther in Minecraft, your world must first contain lava.

2. Use the Water Bucket on the Lava

After that, choose a water bucket from the hotbar, and then pour the water from the water bucket onto the lava. The following are the many game controls that may be used to access the water bucket in Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the block next to the lava.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the block next to the lava.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the block next to the lava.
  • For Education Edition, right click on the block next to the lava.

You will notice the water covering the lava, and the lava will change into obsidian as it is covered. It is possible that not all of the lava will transform into obsidian, however this is very dependent on the size of the lava source.

3. Put the Water back in the Bucket

The next step is to refill the bucket with the water. The following commands can be used to return water to its bucket regardless of the version of Minecraft you are playing:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the water.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the water.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the water.
  • For Education Edition, right click on the water.

At this point, the water should have returned to your bucket, and the obsidian should be visible.

4. Hold a Diamond or Netherite Pickaxe

Next, in order to successfully mine the obsidian, you will want either a pickaxe constructed of diamond or one built of netherite. After picking the appropriate choice on the hotbar, you will be able to seize the pickaxe and hold it in your hand.

It is impossible to unearth the obsidian using any other instruments.

5. Mine the Obsidian

The following are the various versions of Minecraft, along with the game controls needed to mine obsidian:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the obsidian.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the obsidian.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the obsidian.
  • For Education Edition, left click and hold on the obsidian.

You are going to have to keep mining obsidian until the large block of obsidian cracks and a tiny piece of obsidian finally surfaces. The obsidian will be suspended in the air above the earth.

6. Pick up the Obsidian

You need to make sure that you pick up the obsidian before it vanishes. After you have picked up the obsidian, you will notice that it has been added to your hotbar.

You have successfully crafted obsidian in Minecraft. Congratulations!
