How to Rename Your Airpods

Keeping track of all the Bluetooth-enabled devices you have to connect to — from your car’s audio system to your noise-cancelling headphones to your living room speaker — may be difficult when you have so many to manage.

Therefore, renaming gadgets such as your AirPods might be beneficial in ensuring that you never get them mixed up again. You can alter the name of your AirPods from the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, or from the System Preferences menu on your Mac – here’s how to do it on each device separately.

How to Change the Name of your AirPods on iPhone and iPad

There is no difference in the method for changing the name of your AirPods, whether you have AirPods Max, AirPods Pro, or AirPods (1st and 2nd generation).

1. Remove your AirPods from their carrying case.

2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and select Bluetooth.

3. Select your AirPods from the list of devices by tapping the blue I symbol next to them.

4. Enter a new name in the Name area by tapping on it.

5. Once you’ve finished entering a new name, click Done in the bottom-right corner of the keypad.

As a result, when you try to look for your AirPods in your list of devices, you will now see them listed under the new name.

How to change the name of your AirPods on Mac

No matter the model of AirPods you have, you may rename them on your Mac computer regardless of the model.

1. Launch System Preferences on your Mac, which you can do by selecting System Preferences from the drop-down menu that appears when you click the Apple symbol in the top-left corner of your screen.

2. Select Bluetooth from the System Preferences menu.

3. Connect your AirPods to your Mac using the USB cable. In the Devices area of the Bluetooth page, right-click the name of your AirPods and select Rename from the drop-down menu. Then restart your Bluetooth device. When you right-click on a Mac, keep the Control key pressed down as you click.

4. Enter a new name and click Rename once again to confirm your selection. .

As a result, when you try to look for your AirPods in your list of devices, you will now see them listed under the new name.

Why can’t I rename my AirPods?

Attempt to reset your AirPods. Place the AirPods in the charging case and leave the lid open for easy access. Then, press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case for approximately 3 seconds, or until the status light begins to flash amber and then white, as seen in the image below. After that, connect the headphones to your iPhone and attempt to rename it as you normally would.

Why are my AirPods under a different name?
