The Google Pixel Watch 2 might use Samsung and UWB.

Published

Google is working on the first Galaxy Pixel Watch sequel, which may change some hardware suppliers and components. Intriguingly, the Google Pixel Watch 2—which could launch later this year—might be the first Wear OS smartwatch to feature Ultra Wide Band (UWB) connectivity, outdoing Samsung. On July 26, Samsung made a smartwatch announcement during Galaxy Unpacked. Since the Galaxy Watch 6 lacks UWB connection, there is little likelihood that Samsung will provide this technology to its wristwatch lineup before the middle of 2024. Conversely, Google may add UWB connection to the Pixel Watch 2 this year.

Theoretically, UWB ought to enable Google’s smartwatch to provide more accurate location monitoring. Owners of the Pixel Watch 2 may be able to use their smartwatches as digital car keys thanks to technologies that Samsung smartwatches are unable to perform as of yet. Along with allegedly outpacing Samsung with UWB connectivity, the Google Pixel Watch 2 may change things up regarding component suppliers. Most notably, according to sources, the Pixel Watch 2 won’t employ an Exynos processor.

Exynos 9110 was already a dated processor when Pixel Watch chose it, however rumours claim that Exynos W920 or W930 SoC won’t be used in Pixel Watch 2. It won’t have an Exynos chip at all, only a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1. Samsung will experience a “lose some, win some” scenario as a supplier, nevertheless. Samsung Display will enter the scene as Exynos leaves. According to rumors, Samsung display panels will take the place of the BOE-supplied ones in the Pixel Watch 2.
