Unless you physically disconnect your Apple TV, it will not be able to be “shut off.” There is no power button on the device, and there is no menu option to turn it off.

How to “Turn off” an Apple TV with Sleep Mode
Waiting for an Apple TV to enter Sleep Mode is one method of putting it into sleep mode. All Apple TV models are programmed to enter Sleep Mode automatically after a predetermined length of time has passed without being used.
To adjust the amount of time it takes for the computer to enter Sleep Mode, do the following:
1. Launch the Settings application. Its logo is a huge grey gear, which serves as its emblem.
2. Select “Sleep After” from the “General” option by scrolling down to the bottom.
3. Select the option “Sleep After.” Select the length of time you want your Apple TV to wait before entering Sleep Mode from this drop-down menu.
There are also two methods for entering Sleep Mode that you may use with your remote.
If you have an Apple TV 4K or an Apple TV HD model, you can do the following:
1. For three seconds, hold down the Home button on your Apple TV remote control. The Control Center will be shown as a result of this action.
2. Click on the “Sleep” button.
Simply press and hold the Play/Pause button on an Apple TV 3rd Generation or earlier for five seconds to pause or resume playback.
You may also enable Sleep Mode on any Apple TV model by accessing the Settings menu.
