The Simple Guide to Baccarat

Published

Play Baccarat.

Baccarat is like the classic Bond movie game, which can give it a bit of a more intimidating presence than it should have. Baccarat is actually really simple, and in how you play it and bet on it, the strategy has a lot in common with a coin flip- because it is simply down to chance.

What many like about Baccarat is that this casino game is pretty player friendly with its relatively low house edge.

So, if you are looking for a new game to play, and you fancy trying your hand at Baccarat, why not take a chance. Read this before you begin, so you have yourself some knowledge ahead of the game, and enjoy playing new, fun casino games.

What are the rules?

The rules of baccarat require all the betting on any particular hand to be completed before the hand begins. The game will then start with two cards being dealt to each of two hands- the player hand and the bank hand. Much like Blackjack.

The game’s objective in any live Baccarat game is to predict which of these hands will subsequently acquire a total closest to 9l. Thai is done by betting on the bank hand, the player hand, or wagering that the hand may finish as a tie.

As you calculate the value of a hand total, all tens and face cards have a value of zero, while an ace has a value of one, the remainder all score at their face value.

If a hand scores higher than 9, then the score is adjusted by subtracting 10 from the original total.

House rules will specify whether either the bank or player can draw a third card, but whatever the case, only three cards are allowed per hand, maximum.

Those who bet on a winning player will receive a 1 to 1 payout, and those who bet on the bank to win get a 1 to 1 payout should they win. Under baccarat, they must also pay a 5% commission, which has the effect of reducing the payout odds on this hand to 19-20. A winning tie bet gives a pay out of 8 to 1.

Betting on Baccarat.

If you are wagering on a player hand, and it comes closest to nine, then you will win twice what you bet. If you were to wager on the banker, and it is the winning hand, then your payout is 95% of your bet. Do not forget that the totals above 9 mean the first digit must be dropped, so if the hand was 5 + 9 = 14, then you drop the ‘1’ for 4.

Betting a tie is another option with the highest payout. At live Baccarat tables, you will often find score sheets to help you keep tabs on your score.

Playing your hand.

While most of Baccarat is fairly simple, one of the more complex parts of it is the drawing of a third card. This is not a matter of strategy, these are decisions that are covered by the rules of the game and actioned by the dealer So, as a player, you can simply just go with the flow, however, even in Baccarat it is always beneficial to have at least a basic understanding of what could possibly happen.

So, should a player’s hand total – to 5, or if it equals 10 then a third card is drawn. If the total is 6 or 7, the action for this is a ‘stand’ meaning that no third card will be drawn. Totals of 8 or 9 are known as ‘naturals’ and once more, no third card needs to be drawn.

For a banker’s hand, the rules are similar, the dealer is responsible for applying these rules. It is more complex, but generally the same, drawing should the cards be 0-2, standing 7-9, and they may draw on the player’s third card depending on their cards totaling from 3 to 6, and the draw of the player’s card.
