Ps5: Launch and Release
The next gen has finally arrived! Fans have been eagerly waiting and wondering what the price would be. Well, Sony has just announced the PlayStation 5 will cost $499.9, while the Digital Edition will cost $399.9. They will be released to most parts of Europe on November 12th, while the rest of the world will have to wait until the 19th. The company has yet to give a date for China but let’s see when that will be. Pre-orders will begin shortly.
This pricing by Sony puts them against Microsoft‘s consoles, which the company will release just two days before Sony’s release of the PlayStation 5. The entry level Xbox S is at $299 and their flagship Xbox X is at $499.
Just to compare, the Ps4 at its launch cost $399 and even though, it currently sells at $299. There has not been any clear indication if Sony will discontinue the Ps4 now but rumours are that they won’t. At least not until the end of the year.
The PlayStation 5 will include backwards compatibility of the existing PlayStation 4 lineup, but the details are still not that clear yet. The extended library will help make it more attractive to PlayStation buyers over the older models in the holiday season.
Even though, that price is not that expensive, it is not the company’s most expensive console. That was PlayStation 3, which went for $599 and almost a decade and more later, still one of the most expensive consoles in the world.
The major differences between the PlayStation 5 and Digital Edition are mentioned below.
