Path of Exile puts a twist on the typical MMO currency systems. That is, the game doesn’t use one. It uses a barter system and certain common items became PoE currency. Still, each one has a purpose outside of being used as money. Some of them have obtained the reputation of being the ‘standard’ concerning usual currency systems. Chaos Orbs, for example, are the ‘silver standard’ which means they are equivalent to silver in other games.

At any rate, here’s what you need to know for PoE Exalted Orbs.

Q: What are PoE Exalted Orbs?

A: Exalted Orbs can give rare items a new affix. The new affix will be random, but there are ways to influence it. It’s an important resource in crafting high-end items. As a result of that, it serves as the ‘gold standard’ of currency, meaning it’s a valuable commodity to have. Having a stack of these means you’re rich, in a manner of speaking.

Q: Where do I get PoE Exalted Orbs?

A: Exalted Orbs drop everywhere, from slain enemies, destroyed containers, and chests. The only drawback to this is its low drop rate. You’re more likely to get shards or other PoE orbs than Exalted ones. In theory, you can get it at level 1 in any difficulty, but it’s all down to your luck.

You may also get Exalted Orbs from Arcanist’s Strongboxes or sacrificing beasts on the blood altar. Moreover, there are NPC Vendor recipes to get these orbs. However, most of these aren’t recommended as you’d be getting them at a loss.

For example, you can trade one of the rarest currencies, the Mirror of Kalandra for two Exalted Orbs through a vendor. If you check out the PoE trade sites, you’ll see the mirror is actually worth at least 300 Exalts! Gilded Fossils, which you get from Delving, can allow you to get exalts, as well as combining shards. Again, these methods result in loss, since sometimes selling off your gilded item or what you’re exchanging for shards can be more profitable.

You’d be better off trading with other players for them, which is the last method to get them. Current rates go for about 100 Chaos for 1 Exalted.

Q: How do I farm PoE Exalted Orbs?

A: There are many methods to farming exalts, but mostly you’re going to be mapping a lot. Running certain maps that drop certain Divination Cards or while grinding for levels can give you good stacks of currency. Of course, it’s not all going to be Exalted Orbs, but you can always trade-in other currency for it.

Certain Divination Cards, such as Alluring Bounty or Abandoned Wealth, when traded in, will reward you with Exalted Orbs. Farming for these while running maps should increase your rate of farming the currency.

There’s also running maps while using a Magic Find build. This can be difficult, as most magic find builds don’t have good survivability or DPS making mapping a challenge. When done right though, the yield of PoE currency and other PoE items will be overwhelming.

Q: How do I trade for PoE Exalted Orbs?

A: In-game you can make use of trading channels, but it can be a little difficult. Other players can cover your trade message and potentially interested customers won’t be able to see it. It’s a passable method but most others would rather use trading sites.

There are many PoE trade sites where you can get in contact with other players selling the currency you want. In this case, that’s Exalted Orbs. The best and most recommended sites are poe.trade and poe.ninja. There’s the official trading page on the game’s site as well.

Then there are the third party sites that offer PoE currency, PoE uniques, and PoE items too. These ask for your real money so you can get in-game stuff. It’s going to be risky and there are very real dangers when participating in this kind of trade. That’s the trade-off to being very convenient and even quite cheap when the circumstances are right. Be careful when trading with others in this way!

Q: When should I use PoE Exalted Orbs?

A: At first, you should use them as a reserve currency to get your level up equipment. Since your rate of leveling can be quite quick, you’ll be changing equipment every so often. That makes investing your Exalted Orbs useless in the early game. Unless you’re investing in your future/endgame early, don’t use them while still leveling.

Once you can take the time to craft your gear, or you really know what you’re doing, you can use your Exalted Orbs. Since crafting is a game of chance, you’ll be burning through your stacks until you get your desired modifier. Weigh in the risks of crafting to just buying pre-crafted gear.

Hope that answers your questions! For more tips and tricks, especially in crafting, check out guides specifically for that topic. Enjoy Path of Exile, and your PoE Exalted Orbs!
