How to Swim in Animal Crossing

Published

Several new features were incorporated in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons summer update that was published in 2020. Players engaged with a new non-player character (NPC), learned new recipes for a variety of summery furnishings, and — most crucially — were able to swim out into the sea for the first time!

There’s a lot of danger hiding out in the ocean, but luckily, Nintendo made it simple to explore the waters around your island in safety. Everything you need to know about swimming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be found right here.

How to Get a Wetsuit

Located on your island, head to Nook’s Cranny, and then over to the cabinet on the right. When you open it, you’ll notice a variety of various products that you may purchase right away. One such item is a wet suit with horizontal stripes that sells for 3,000 Bells.

If that specific wetsuit does not appeal to your sense of style, you may also purchase a turquoise and black wetsuit with your Nook Miles instead. Proceed to the terminal located under Resident Services. The Nook Inc. wet suit is available for purchase for 800 Nook Miles. If you want to go swimming, you may get a Nook Inc. snorkel for 500 Bells, however this is not needed.

How to Dive

Make sure you’re prepared for the water by packing a wetsuit. Put on/equip the wetsuit you found in your pocket inventory. All of your other clothes will be placed back in your pocket inventory when you remove it. To be clear, this will not need you to remove your shoes; swimming should not be affected, but it would be amusing to see someone splashing around in a pair of boots.

Approach the coast and stand close to the water if you’re ready to dive in. You may either wade into the ocean or leap off a dock or stone platform into the beach. Regardless of whether or not you push the A button on your Nintendo Switch, you can enter the water.

You may paddle and stroke by hitting or holding the A button while moving with the control stick on your left Joy-Con or controller. When you press the Y button, your villager will briefly be submerged in the water. To resurface, just press the Y button a second time or wait for your villager to do so on his or her own.

Where to Find Sea Creatures

Swimming in the ocean isn’t simply a fun pastime; there are numerous species to be found. When opposed to collecting species on land, discovering the 40 marine creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes as a piece of cake.

You’ll observe bubbles rising from the depths as you swim about. It is possible to catch octopi and lobsters here. You can give any of the 40 sea species you uncover to Blathers at the museum on your island.

Look for sea creatures

Swimming and diving are both enjoyable diversions in and of itself, but New Horizons has also included a fresh new page of the Critterpedia for players to discover in the form of marine species, which they may discover by exploring the ocean. The only place to locate them is in the ocean, and players will have to go underwater in order to find them.

As you swim, you’ll see a lot of sea creatures coming, but you won’t be able to tell what kind of marine animals they are. When you observe an accumulation of bubbles dotting the water’s surface, you’ll know they’re close by, at which point you may descend and join the underwater realm. The camera will change to a more vertical position, allowing you to observe a shadow cast by a submerged object. Position your islander on top of this black region, and they’ll be able to capture the elusive item, resulting in a whole new set of puns for you to endure.
